Your First 90 Days
You have only just begun the journey on the pathway to a successful career here at the Village Hospital. There is much more for you to see, learn and experience during your orientation period. These are some of the requirements and opportunities you will encounter as you move from your first-day experience into your various departments.
Clinical systems
Because access for clinical systems is restricted depending on job role, training is only available to those employees who have received permission from a manager to get access to that particular system. Generally, training is required before you receive a password. Check with your manager once you begin work; he or she may already have scheduled you for training.
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System HELP desk is a system-wide service available to all employees for 24-7 troubleshooting of software systems.
Required annual training
The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (the regulatory bodies that monitor our compliance to standards of care) requires that all employees receive annual training and health assessments. Employees shall complete the annual computer-based safety training competencies and a health assessment immediately upon hire and annually thereafter during the month of their birth.
Each employee, including full time, part time, per-diem (PRN), and contract shall complete the computer-based safety training competencies annually during their birth month. Selected mandatory competencies are available in a computer-based training program called Swank Healthcare. Subjects include but are not limited to Environment of Care, Infection Control, Corporate Integrity, Age-Specific and Fire Safety.
During new employee orientation, employees shall receive the above-mentioned training verbally. Courses should be available to employees the first day of the month prior to their birth month. In order to be compliant, competencies must be completed by the last day of the birth month.
In order to access the Swank Healthcare site at www.swankhealth.com/spartanburg/, you will need your Employee ID and Password. Here is an easy way to remember:

Time and attendance
The hospital uses the Kronos system to track hours worked. The procedure differs for exempt (those paid an annual salary) and non-exempt (those paid by the hour) employees. Instructions on how to use the system will be explained during your orientation. Non-exempt employees record time worked by utilizing the Kronos telephone clock system. You should use the telephone closest to your regular work location, or wherever you begin or end work on a given day. Please review the full hours of work and attendance/tardiness policies on the Hospital’s intranet – VH1000.507 and VH1000.514.
Departmental orientations
Some departments have special orientations set up for new employees. Ask your supervisor or office manager. These orientations focus on specifics such as organization, goals and vision, key initiatives and departmental procedures. They are usually held within 90 days of your start date. Even if your department doesn’t have a formal orientation process, you can expect to learn about day-to-day details of your job from your supervisor and co-workers. Don’t hesitate to ask questions!
